Mary, Martha, and Lazarus were the friends of Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is Man and God. Jesus is with God from eternal to eternal. But He came this earth to save us, human being because all men are sinners from Adam.
jeus sometimes visits them. Mary beforehand anointed Jeus with oil. That fragrant oil was very expensive. But mary pourd the oil to Jesus feet and wiped His feet with her hair.
In ancient time, oil was used as fuel for lamps. It was also used as cosmetic purpose. In Israel, the corn, the wine, and the oil were three major agricultural products. Anointing with oil symbolizes joy and honour.
One day, Jesus visited Mary and Martha. They received Jesus into the house. Martha was very busy to serve Jesus. She cooked and prepared the food and had many things to do in the kitchen. Martha alone worked in the kitchen.
But Mary was sitting quietly at Jeus" feet and heard all His words. Martha was tired and came to Hesus and said, Lord, don't you care that my sister mary has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to to come and help me"
But the Lord Jesus replied lovingly " Martha, Martha, You are worried and trobled over many things, but just one thing is most important. That is hearing God"s word. Mary has chosen the right thing, and it will be taken away from her."
It is good for us to take time to listen to what Jesus has to say. He speaks to us through His word, the bible. We should not be so busy with other things that we do not have time to read the Bible or hear it being explained.
