Hank Williams
1950년대 미국 컨트리음악의 전설적인 작곡가 겸 가수인
행크 윌리암스는 29세에 요절한 천재적인 작곡가 겸 가수인데
짧은 생애에서도 500여곡을 작곡하였다.
그중 150여곡은 '70년대 중반까지도 매년 10퍼센트 이상의
로열티가 상승할 정도로 많은 가수들이 즐겨 부르는 곡이다.
특히 "Your Cheatin' Heart" 같은 노래는 지금까지도
세계 100여개국의 250여명의 다른 가수들이 레코드로 취입한
대 기록은 남겼다.
행크는 컨트리뮤직을 대중에게 보급시키는 데 성공했고
컨트리 뮤직의 멜로디 패턴, 창법, 가사 등을
하나의 스탠다드 형식으로 정착시킨 개척자였다.
그리고 그의 노래 속에는 서민들의 삶 깊숙히 엉켜 있는 슬픔,
고통, 분노 등을 해소시키는 시적 요소가 들어 있다.
Jambalaya 는 행크 월리엄스가 1952년에 작사 작곡한
매우 대중적으로 인기있는 밝은 노래로서,
원곡은 루이지애너 지방의 민요 "아름다운 텍사스처녀" 라고 하며,
'잠발라야’란 쌀과 고기로 만든 요리의 일종이라고 한다.
우리에게는 Carpenters의 노래도 많이 알려져 있다.
