Some time ago I looked into replacing banners. At first, I was stumped, but it seems I may have had a rogue user script. Anyway, I swapped out the Ikko-ikki mon with a custom one. After that success, I figure I'd create an entirely new banner.

To give me something to work with, I used Shingen's Furinkazan banner (see the wiki link below). Creating the banner itself was no problem. In my attempts to make it fit in, however, I came across two distinctly annoying things.
-The first thing was the icons for cavalry, spearmen, bowmen, etc that get slapped on the banner during battles. Anything other than black, or something very dark, looked odd to me. By using black, the icons still cut out a bit of the writing, but looks much better. The implication of this is found on the campaign map. The rectangles that represent a single unit are also coloured black, so they are hard to see on the banner.
-The second thing also regards those rectangles. Say you have a full stack. Vanilla banners simply have their clan mon at the top, so even with 20 of those rectangles, the mon is not covered up. With the Furinkazan banner, a fair bit of it can be covered up, which is pretty annoying. In optimizing the banner I did make the writing a bit smaller and moved it up a bit so if you have a smaller army, you'll be able to see the banner clearly. With 20 units, however, you'll find not much of it is visible.

Over all this, I figure people who really like the Furinkazan banner in their campaign/battles will whether the storm of ghastly rectangles and unit type icons, right?

Now, just to note. You will frequently see the vanilla Takeda mon during your campaign. All I have done is replaced the banner and engaged in a little bit of colour-changes, so this is by no means a visual overhaul for the Takeda clan. Simply a banner replacement mod.

I uploaded two pic's for you guys. One is a screenshot of Takeda when you first start the campaign. The other is a screenshot of the starting army showing the banners in battle mode (Whoops. Shingen didn't sally out to battle. Silly me.)

The .pack file is in the attached .rar file. Extract it to S2's data folder.

Have fun and let me know what you think.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Furinkazan.svg - I used this to create the banners in S2. Credits for the original banner design go to the users 'Washiucho' and 'Stepshep'. A trans-server +rep to them.

A little update: I maintain this looks 'wierd' in battles but using a gold colour (old gold; rgb: 207, 181, 59) looks better on the campaign map. Those rectangles that each represent one unit are now much clearer on the campaign banner. It still won't help with larger armies covering up the banner and the unit type icons are clearer, and thus more annoying. The Takeda kamon on each soldiers' sashimono is now gold (actually, it looks kinda green). These tweaks are found in the alternate mod: "Furinkazan (Gold Version)". It's attached below.
