존 베일리의 기도 (26일 아침):
아침의 밝음을 악한 생각으로 더럽히지 않게 하시고

오늘의 삶을 선물로 주신 당신께 구하오니 나의 삶을 올바르게 사용할 수 있는 정신을 주옵소서. 이 아침의 밝음을 악한 생각으로 더럽히지 않게 하시고, 한 낮의 밝음을 부끄러운 행동으로 어둡게 하지 않게 하소서. 당신의 성령으로 내 마음을 숨 쉬게 하셔서 순수하고 거룩한 욕망으로 가득하게 하소서. 당신의 진리가 내 마음을 채워주소서. 당신의 정의와 의로움이 내 안에 임하사 나의 잘못된 의지를 인도하여 주소서. 그리스도께서 내 안에서 형상을 이루사, 그의 모든 겸손한 마음과 온유한 태도와 신중한 말과 도움의 행위와 아버지의 뜻을 행하시는 민첩성을 배우게 하소서.
자비로운 은혜로 온 땅에 미치시며 당신의 자녀가 하나라도 멸망치 않기를 원하시는 당신께 이 세상을 보다 나은 곳으로 만들려고 노력하는 모든 사람을 향한 축복을 구하옵니다. 특별히 나는 하나님께 기도합니다.
진리를 위해 싸우는 모든 사람들과
순수하고 공정한 법을 위해 일하는 사람들과
국가 간의 평화를 위해서 일하는 사람들과
질병을 고치기 위해서 애쓰는 사람들과
가난으로부터 사람들을 구하기 위해서 수고하는 사람들과
타락한 사람들을 구하기 위해서 애쓰는 사람들과
당신의 거룩한 교회의 무너진 통일을 회복하기 위해서 일하는 사람들과
복음을 전하는 사람들과
외국에서 그리스도를 증거하는 사람들과
의를 위해서 고난당하는 사람들을 위해서 기도합니다.
오 주여, 잔인하고 악한 모든 세력들을 물리쳐 주소서. 이기적이고 세속적인 음모들을 물리쳐 주시고, 그리스도의 정신으로 그의 축복스런 이름의 명예를 위해 수행하는 모든 것들을 번영케 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도하옵나이다. 아멘.
O Thou to whom I owe the gift of this day's life, give to me also, I beseech Thee, the spirit to use it as I ought. Forbid that I should stain the brightness of the morning with any evil thought or darken the noontide with any shameful deed. Let Thy Holy Spirit breathe into my heart to-day all pure and heavenly desires. Let Thy truth inform my mind. Let Thy justice and righteousness make a throne within me and rule my errant will. Let Christ be formed in me, and let me learn of Him all lowliness of heart, all gentleness of bearing, all modesty of speech, all helpfulness of action, and promptness in the doing of my Father's will.
O Thou who compassest the whole earth with Thy most merciful favours and willest not that any of Thy children should perish, I would call down Thy blessing to-day upon all who are striving towards the making of a better world. I pray, O God, especially—
for all who are valiant for truth:
for all who are working for purer and juster laws:
for all who are working for peace between the nations:
for all who are engaged in healing disease:
for all who are engaged in the relief of poverty:
for all who are engaged in the rescue of the fallen:
for all who are working towards the restoration of the broken unity of Thy Holy Church:
for all who preach the gospel:
for all who bear witness to Christ in foreign lands:
for all who suffer for righteousness' sake.
Cast down, O Lord, all the forces of cruelty and wrong. Defeat all selfish and worldly-minded schemes, and prosper all that is conceived among us in the spirit of Christ and carried out to the honour of His blessed name. Amen.
