A proverb goes, a loaf of bread is better than song of birds.

Human beings have tried to get food because it is essential to maintain life.

As a result, nowadays we can find food everywhere and anytime.

But life circumstances of the world are so diverse.

Some people struggle to overcome their obesity while other some people struggle to get out of their starvation.

And some food is eaten as a means of sharing happiness among people or as a means of easing a man or woman' anger.

Let`s talk about food & its relatives.


1.What is your favorite food?

  What kind of food disgusts you?


2.What kinds of dish can you cook?

  Could you tell me its recipe?


*Tips>

roughly chop(대충 다지다) slice(얇게 썰다) cut into strips(길게 자르다) whisk(젓다.)

fresh mushrooms, quartered(4등분 된 신선한 버섯) Cut in pieces

cooked chicken meat, cubed (익힌 닭고기, 깍둑썰기로)

shelled fresh or frozen peas (껍질 있는 날것/얼린 콩)

beaten egg, for glazing(윤기를 더하기 위한 푼 계란)

steam(삶다)boil(끊이다.) melt(녹이다.)sift sth into the bowl(체로 치다.)


3.Who is the main cook for you?  Mother, wife or yourself?

  Do you have any recommendable menu or restaurant specially?


4.There are jokes as that the French say `It`s delicious`(Il était) after a meal and the American say  `I`m full`.     

Which of them is nearer to you?          

 Would you tell me the difference of eating culture between foreign and our country?


5.The temptation of junk food


  Junk food isn`t actually made of garbage. People say the term 'junk food' to describe the food that has few nutrients your body needs and has too much fat, sugar, and salt. These things can make your body bigger and unhealthy. Potato chips, candy, and soft drinks are also often considered junk food.

 American parents try to get junk food out of their children`s schools.

 England government plan to put a ban on advertising of junk food.

What do you think of junk food?


Good food & right dietary habit is one of the most important factor in maintaining health.

6.How is your dietary habit?

 Keyword; regular or irregular/ plenty or a little/ fast or slowly/ vegetable or meat/

           salty or not/ greasy or not/ low or high in sugar/ hot or not/ etc.


7.Do you have any experience of diet to control of your body weight?

  What do you think of the ideal diet for health?

  Keyword; carbohydrate, lipid, protein, calory, vitamin, mineral, fiber,

            balanced, and above keyword etc.


8.Thin model catwalk controversy


 The powerful fashion federation of France, Italy, the US and Britain have decided to jointly tackle growing global concern over showcasing ultra-thin models on catwalks.

Concern over teenage anorexia and over-thin models on catwalks was mounted since the death of 21-year-old Brazillian top-model Ana Carolina Reston on last November.

The organizers of Madrid Fashion Week in last September banned from women with a body mass index(BMI) of less 18. But British fashion industry said in last January

they would not ban ultra-thin models from the catwalk, and they had asked designers to use only "healthy" people in their shows.

What is your opinion about this issues?


Reference; Body Mass Index(BMI) is a reliable indicator of body fatness for people.

           Calculation; weight(Kg)/square of height(m)

           Interpretation;  Below 18.5;   underweight

                          18.5 ~ 24.9;     normal

                          25.5 ~ 29.9;   overweight

                          30.0 and Above; obese


9.Do you have any allergy for a certain food?

  Have you been awfully troubled after having food?


10.Because we depend on many cooks & handlers, we have possibility of eating unhealthy food such as some processed food, food additives, some imported food, or food made of poor managed material before we are aware.
