<형용사의 명사화>
형용사를 명사로 쓰기 위한 방법에는 아래 두 가지 방식이 있다.
1. the + 형용사[분사]
1) 보통 복수로 취급해 '∼사람들'로 해석
ex. The old and the young seldom agree in their feelings. (노인들과 젊은이들은 좀체로 감정이 잘 맞지 않는다.)
2) 추상적인 의미로 변화하며 단수 취급
ex. She has an eye for the beautiful. (그녀는 미를 보는 눈이 있다.)
2. 형용사[분사] + s: 보통 복수로 취급
ex. Let bygones be bygones. (지난 일들은 지난 일들로 내버려두어라.)

1. Her valuables are kept in a safe.
2. The injured are sent to the nearest hospital.
3. The aim of life is to discover the true, the good, and the beautiful.
4. Sell all your belongings and give the money to the poor.
Ans.
1. 그녀의 귀중품들은 금고 속에 보관되어 있다.
2. 부상자들은 가장 가까운 병원으로 보내진다.
3. 인생의 목표는 진, 선, 미를 발견하는 것이다.
4. 네 소지품(소유물) 전부를 팔아 그 돈을 가난한 사람들에게 주어라.
