The Mexican composer Manuel Ponce wrote his song Estrellita (‘little star’) in 1912. It is a sweet and very nostalgic melody. Ponce made a transcription of the song for piano in 1925 and later also for guitar. Violinist Ray Chen performs the song together with ensemble Amsterdam Sinfonietta.

마누엘 퐁세는 20세기 초반에 활약한 멕시코 작곡가로 독일 유학에서 돌아온 뒤
멕시코국립음악원에서 10년 넘게 학생들을 가르치는 한편
멕시코 민요 중 아름다운 멜로디를 발굴한 뒤, 기타곡 등으로 편곡하여 소개했는데
1912년에 만든 ‘에스트렐리타(Estrellita, 작은 별)’가국민가요와 같은 인기를 얻으며 그의 대표작이 되었다.
향수鄕愁를 노래한 것이라는 원곡의 멜로디와 달리
곡에 붙인 가사는 애절한 세레나데 그 자체다.
이 곡은 하이페츠가 편곡한 곡으로 원곡하고는 다른 맛을 풍긴다.
