 packed like sardines: This expression‎ means that a place is very crowded.

 

Sardines are small fish and they usually come in a small can. They are packed into the can so closely that it is not easy to find any space between them. In real life this expression‎ is used in a figurative way, and it means that there are so many people at a certain place that they cannot move easily.

 

-Examples

1. My morning bus has so many people packed that we are packed like sardines.

 

2. The shopping mall had people packed like sardines. We couldn’t even think of getting in.

정어리는 작은 물고기로 주로 작은 통조림으로 만들어집니다. 이 때 통조림 안에 정어리를 빽빽히 집어넣기 때문에 빈틈이 남지 않게 됩니다. 실생활에서 이 말은 비유적으로 쓰이는 표현이며 사람들이 꽉 들어차 쉽게 움직일 수 없다는 것을 의미합니다.
