The Dharma Nature Verse (Beopseong-gye)
The nature of all things (Dharma Nature) is complete, harmonious, and non-dual.
All things are fundamentally unmoving and originally serene.
It is beyond all limits, having no name and no form.
It is known only by enlightened wisdom, not by ordinary thought.
The True Nature is extremely deep, subtle, and profound.
Things are accomplished by conditions or affinities, not by the true nature .
The All is in the One, and the One is in the Many.
The One is the All, and the Many is the One.
A single, minute particle holds the entire world, and all other particles do the same.
Immeasurable time is a single moment, and a single moment is immeasurable time.
All of time—past, present, and future—are mutually connected, yet they are not mixed up, but each is distinctly and separately established.
The very moment one first arouses the Bodhi-mind (resolve for enlightenment), one immediately attains Perfect Awakening. Thus, Saṃsāra (Birth and Death) and Nirvāṇa (Liberation) are always in perfect harmony.“
Truth and reality are not separate, so there are no distinctions. This is the state of great beings like the Buddhas and Samantabhadra.
Entering the deep ocean-like peace, they freely create endless worlds without limit.
Treasures rain down from the sky to help all beings, yet people gain only according to their own capacity.
Therefore, the practitioner returns to the Ultimate Reality.
Even if they try not to stop their delusions,
how can they stop something that never existed?
With a free and skillful mind, they find the precious jewel. Returning to their true nature, they find spiritual nourishment that fits them perfectly.
With the inexhaustible treasures of Dharani, they adorn the true palace of the Dharma Realm.
Ultimately, seated on the true Middle Way, they have remained unmoved since the beginning. This is what is named 'Buddha’
법성게(法性偈)
법성(法性)의 본래 성품은 원만하고 조화로우며 둘이 아니다.
모든 존재는 본래 움직임이 없고, 처음부터 고요하고 평온하다.
모든 한계를 초월하여 이름도 없고 형상도 없다.
이는 범부의 분별된 생각으로 알 수 있는 것이 아니라,
깨달음의 지혜로만 알 수 있다.
참된 본성은 지극히 깊고 미묘하며 오묘하다.
모든 현상은 참된 본성 자체에서 이루어지는 것이 아니라,
인연과 조건에 따라 나타난다.
하나 속에 일체가 있고, 일체 속에 하나가 있다.
하나가 곧 전체이며, 전체가 곧 하나이다.
티끌 하나의 작은 세계 속에도 온 우주가 담겨 있고,
모든 티끌 하나하나가 또한 그러하다.
헤아릴 수 없는 긴 시간이 한 순간이고,
한 순간이 곧 헤아릴 수 없는 시간이다.
과거와 현재와 미래의 모든 시간은 서로 연결되어 있으나,
뒤섞여 혼란스러운 것이 아니라
각각의 모습과 자리에서 분명히 존재한다.
처음으로 깨달음의 마음(보리심)을 일으키는 바로 그 순간,
완전한 깨달음(정각)을 성취한다.
그러므로 생사(生死)의 윤회와 열반(涅槃)의 해탈은
본래 둘이 아니며 언제나 조화롭게 하나이다.
진리와 현실은 서로 떨어져 있지 않으므로
분별할 차이가 없다.
이것이 바로 부처님과 보현보살과 같은
대성인들이 머무는 경지이다.
깊은 바다와 같은 평온한 법계의 바다에 들어가
한량없이 넓고 끝없는 세계를 자유롭게 만들어낸다.
하늘에서 보배로운 비가 내려
모든 중생을 돕지만,
사람들은 각자의 그릇과 능력만큼 받아들인다.
그러므로 수행자는 마침내
궁극의 참된 실재(법성)로 돌아간다.
번뇌를 끊으려 하지 않아도
애써 끊을 것이 무엇인가?
본래 존재하지 않는 것을 어떻게 끊을 수 있겠는가?
자유롭고 지혜로운 마음으로
귀한 보배를 얻는다.
본래의 참성품으로 돌아가면
자신에게 꼭 맞는 영적인 양식을 얻는다.
다함없는 다라니의 보배로
법계의 참된 궁전을 장엄한다.
마침내 참된 중도(中道)의 자리에 앉아
처음부터 한 번도 움직인 적 없는 그대로 머문다.
이것을 이름하여 ‘부처(佛)’라 한다.
