三. 普賢三昧品
Chapter III. Universal Worthy’s Samadhi
一, 普賢菩薩의 三昧 보현보살이 삼매에 들다
1, 三昧名 삼매의 이름을 말하다
爾時에 普賢菩薩摩訶薩이 於如來前에 坐蓮華藏師子之座하사
承佛神力하야 入于三昧하시니 此三昧가 名一切諸佛毘盧遮那如來藏身이라
그때 보현보살마하살이 여래 앞에서 연화장 사자좌에 앉으사 부처님의 위신력을
받들어 삼매에 들어갔다.
이 삼매는 이름이 일체제불비로자나여래장신(一切諸佛毘盧遮那如來藏身)이다.
At that time, Universal Worthy Bodhisattva Mahasattva, who was seated upon a lion's throne
of a treasury of lotus blossoms before the Thus Come One, received the Buddha's spiritual
power and entered samadhi That samadhi is called the seed body of a Thus Come One, which
all Buddhas have in common, that is Vairocana. <B.T.T.S>
At that time:그때 Universal Worthy Bodhisattva Mahasattva:보현보살마하살
who was seated upon a lion's throne of a treasury of lotus blossoms :연화장 사자좌에 앉으사
before the Thus Come One:여래 앞에서
received the Buddha's spiritual power :부처님의 위신력을 받들어
and entered samadhi:삼매에 들어갔다.
That samadhi :이 삼매는 is called:이름이
the seed body of a Thus Come One, which all Buddhas have in common, that is Vairocana
:일체제불비로자나여래장신(一切諸佛毘盧遮那如來藏身)
THE ENLIGHTENING BEING Universally Good, the great being, sat on a lion throne made of a
bank of lotus flowers, and, imbued with the psychic power of the Enlightened One, entered into
concentration. This concentration so called the immanent body of the illuminator of thusness,
which is in all enlightened ones. <Thomas Cleary>
2, 三昧의 體用 삼매의 체용(體用)을 밝히다
①普入一切佛平等性하야 能於法界에 示衆影像하며
廣大無礙하야 同於虛空하고 法界海旋에 靡不隨入하며
모든 부처님의 평등한 성품에 널리 들어가 능히 법계에서 온갖 그림자를 보이며
넓고 크고 걸림이 없어서 허공과 같고, 법계바다의 소용돌이에 다 따라 들어가며,
It is universal entry into identity with all Buddhas and the ability to display
a multitude of images throughout the Dharma Realm. It is vast, great and
unobstructed, just like space and the Dharma Realm, none of whose eddying seas
are not accordingly entered. <B.T.T.S>
It is universal entry into:널리 들어가
identity with all Buddhas :모든 부처님의 평등한 성품
the ability to display a multitude of images :능히 온갖 그림자를 보이며
throughout the Dharma Realm:법계에서
It is vast, great and unobstructed:넓고 크고 걸림이 없어서
just like space:허공과 같고
the Dharma Realm, none of whose eddying seas :법계바다의 소용돌이
none~are not accordingly entered:다 따라 들어가며,
It enters everywhere into the equal essence of all enlightened ones, and is capable of manifesting myriad images
in the cosmos, vastly and immensely, without obstruction, equal to space. All the whirling oceans of universes flow
along into it; <Thomas Cleary>
②出生一切諸三昧法하고 普能包納十方法界하며
三世諸佛의 智光明海가 皆從此生하고
온갖 삼매의 법을 출생하고, 널리 시방 법계를 싸 들이며,
삼세 모든 부처님의 지혜광명바다가 모두 여기에서 나오고
It produces every samadhi-dharma. It can universally encompass the dharma realms of the
ten directions. The oceans of wisdom light of the Buddhas of the three periods of time all
come forth from it. <B.T.T.S>
It produces :출생하고 every samadhi-dharma:온갖 삼매의 법
It can universally encompass :널리 싸 들이며
the dharma realms of the ten directions:시방 법계
The oceans of wisdom light :지혜광명바다
of the Buddhas of the three periods of time :삼세 모든 부처님의
all come forth from it:모두 여기에서 나온다.
it produces all states of concentration, and can contain all worlds in all directions.
The oceans of lights of knowledge of all the enlightened ones come from here; <Thomas Cleary>
③十方所有諸安立海를 悉能示現하며
含藏一切佛力解脫과 諸菩薩智하고
시방에 나란히 널려있는 바다들을 다 나타내보이며,
모든 부처님의 힘과 해탈과 모든 보살의 지혜를 모두 포함하여 간직하고,
It can completely reveal all the oceans of arrangements throughout the ten directions.
It encompasses all Buddhas' powers and liberations and all Bodhisattvas' wisdoms. <B.T.T.S>
It can completely reveal all:다 나타내보이며
the oceans of arrangements :나란히 널려있는 바다들
throughout the ten directions:시방에
It encompasses :포함하여 간직하고
all Buddhas' powers and liberations :모든 부처님의 힘과 해탈
all Bodhisattvas' wisdoms:모든 보살의 지혜
it can reveal all the oceans of all conditions everywhere. It contains within it all the powers and liberations of
the enlightened ones and the knowledge of the enlightening beings. <Thomas Cleary>
④能令一切國土微塵으로 普能容受無邊法界하며
成就一切佛功德海하고 顯示如來諸大願海하고
一切諸佛의 所有法輪을 流通護持하야 使無斷絶케하시니라
모든 국토의 티끌들이 그지없는 법계를 널리 수용하며,
모든 부처님의 공덕바다를 성취하고, 여래의 모든 큰 서원의 바다를 나타내보이며,
모든 부처님에게 있는 법륜(法輪)을 유통시키며 보호해서 끊어지지 않게 하였다.
It can cause every fine mote of dust in the lands to universally contain boundless
dharma realms. It accomplishes the ocean of meritorious qualities of all Buddhas.
It makes appear the seas of all Thus Come Ones' great vows.
It circulates, protects and maintains all Dharma wheels of all Buddhas, so they are
never cut off. <B.T.T.S>
It can cause every fine mote of dust in the lands :모든 국토의 티끌들
to universally contain:널리 수용하며 boundless dharma realms:그지없는 법계
It accomplishes:성취하고
the ocean of meritorious qualities of all Buddhas:모든 부처님의 공덕바다
It makes appear :나타내보이며,
the seas of all Thus Come Ones' great vows:여래의 모든 큰 서원의 바다
It circulates, protects and maintains:유통시키며 보호해서
all Dharma wheels of all Buddhas:모든 부처님에게 있는 법륜(法輪)
so they are never cut off:끊어지지 않게 하였다.
It can cause the particles of all lands to be universally able to contain boundless universes.
It develops the ocean of virtuous qualities of all Buddhas, and reveals the ocean of great vows of these enlightened
ones. All the cycles of teaching of the Buddhas flow through it and are guarded and maintained by it, and kept
without interruption or end. <Thomas Cleary>
3, 類通十方 시방삼세(十方三世)의 미진수(微塵數) 보현보살도 이 삼매에 들다
①如此世界中普賢菩薩이 於世尊前에 入此三昧하야
如是盡法界虛空界와 十方三世와 微細無礙과 廣大光明과
佛眼所見과 佛力能到와 佛身所現인 一切國土와
이 세계에서 보현보살이 세존 앞에서 이러한 삼매에 든 것과 같이 온 법계의
허공계와 시방삼세와 미세하여 걸림이 없는 광대한 광명과 부처님의 눈으로
보시는 바와 부처님의 힘이 이르는 데와 부처님의 몸을 나타낸 모든 국토와,
Just as in this world Universal Worthy Bodhisattva entered this samadhi in the presence of
the World Honored One, it was the same way to the exhaustion of the Dharma Realm and the
realm of space, throughout the ten directions and the three periods of time, in all lands,
whether fine and subtle, unobstructed, vast and great, luminous, visible to the Buddha eye,
able to be reached by the Buddha's powers, or where Buddhas' bodies can manifest.

Just as :같이 in this world:이 세계에서 Universal Worthy Bodhisattva :보현보살
entered this samadhi :이러한 삼매에 든 것
in the presence of the World Honored One:세존 앞에서
it was the same way to the exhaustion of the Dharma Realm :온 법계
and the realm of space:허공계
throughout the ten directions and the three periods of time:시방삼세
in all lands:모든 국토
whether fine and subtle, unobstructed, vast and great, luminous:미세하여 걸림이 없는 광대한 광명
visible to the Buddha eye:부처님의 눈으로 보시는 바
able to be reached by the Buddha's powers:부처님의 힘이 이르는 데
where Buddhas' bodies can manifest:부처님의 몸을 나타낸
As in this world the enlightening being Universally Good entered this concentration in the presence of the World
Honored One, thus in the same way throughout the realm of space of the cosmos, in all directions and all times,
in a subtle, unhindered, vastly expansive light, in all lands visible to the Buddha's eye, within reach of the Buddha's
power, manifested by the Buddha's body, <Thomas Cleary>
②及此國土의 所有微塵인 一一塵中에 有世界海微塵數佛刹하고
一一刹中에 有世界海微塵數諸佛이어시든
一一佛前에 有世界海微塵數普賢菩薩도
皆亦入此一切諸佛毘盧遮那如來藏身三昧하시니라
그리고 이 국토에 있는 티끌의 낱낱 티끌 속에 세계바다 티끌수와 같은 부처님
세계가 있고, 그 낱낱 세계 속에 세계바다 티끌수의 모든 부처님이 계시며,
낱낱 부처님 앞에 세계바다 티끌수의 보현보살이 있어서 다 또한
이 일체제불비로자나여래장신삼매에 들어갔다.
Within every single mote of dust of all the dust motes in those lands as well as this land
were Buddhalands many as the fine dust motes in a sea of worlds. In each of those lands
there were Buddhas numerous as the fine dust motes in a sea of worlds. Before each and
every Buddha there were Universal Worthy Bodhisattvas numerous as the fine dust motes in
a sea of worlds, all of whom also entered this samadhi of the seed body of a Thus Come One,
which all Buddhas have in common, that is Vairocana. <B.T.T.S>
Within every single mote of dust of :낱낱 티끌 속에
all the dust motes in those lands :이 국토에 있는 티끌
as well as this land were :세계가 있고
Buddhalands many as the fine dust motes :티끌수와 같은 부처님
in a sea of worlds:세계바다 In each of those lands :그 낱낱 세계 속에
there were Buddhas :모든 부처님이 계시며
numerous as the fine dust motes in a sea of worlds:세계바다 티끌수의
Before each and every Buddha :낱낱 부처님 앞에
there were Universal Worthy Bodhisattvas :보현보살이 있어서
numerous as the fine dust motes in a sea of worlds:세계바다 티끌수의
all of whom also entered :다 또한~들어갔다
this samadhi of the seed body of a Thus Come One, which all Buddhas
have in common, that is Vairocana:일체제불비로자나여래장신삼매
and in each atom of all those lands, there were Buddhas as numerous as atoms in an ocean of worlds, and in front
of each Buddha were Universally Good enlightening beings numerous as atoms in an ocean of worlds, each also
entering into this concentration in the immanent body of the illuminator of thusness in enlightened ones. <Thomas Cleary>
