Alone she cuts and binds the grain

O listen! for the Vale profound
Is overflowing with the sound.
외로이 혼자서 그녀는 곡식을 자르고 묶는다
그리고 구슬픈 노래를 부른다
들어보시오!, 깊은 골짜기가 그 소리로
흘러넘치고 있다.

이만큼 감격적인 목소리가 뻐꾸기로부터 이보다
더 전열적인 소리를 들은 적이 없다.
머나먼 Hebrides 제도 한가운데 바다의 침묵을
깨뜨리는 소리를 들은 적이 없다
Will no one tell me what she sings?
Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow
For old, unhappy, far-off things.
And battles long ago:
그누가 그녀가 부르는 노래를 말해주지 않을것인가?
이 구슬픈 노래는 그 옛날 불행한 머나먼 일들이나
오래전 전투를 소재로 한 이야기를
Or is it some more humble lay,
Familiar matter of to-day?
Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain
That has been, and may be again?
아니면 그 노래가 어떤 오늘날의
친근한 소재를 다룬 소박한 노래일지도 모른다.
과거에도 있었고 지금도 있었고 미래에도 있지도
모르는 어떤 본연의 비애, 상실, 고통의 노래일까
