인도는 영국의 식민지시대에 철도가 발달했다. 목화수송을 위한 광궤의 화물철도가 인도전역에 깔렸다. 면직물로 가공된 목화가 당시 영국의 자본형성에 절대적으로 기여한 것이다.
이때 발달된 화물철도시스템으로 인해 지금도 철도의 영업이익은 여객보다 화물쪽에서 나오고 있다고 한다.
India has a good railway system since colonial times of England.
The wide-width railways for transport of cotton were constructed all over India.
Textiles made of cotton contributed greatly to the build-up of capital of England.
The railways for freights were developed more than railways for people.
Until nowadays, the profits of railways are coming from carrying the freights rather than from the people.
인도의 철도망 (Indian Railway System)

이 광궤의 철도망은 사람도 많이 실을 수 있다. 통행빈도는 낮지만 수송능력이 좋고 운임도 매우 싸다.
This wide-width railway can carry many passengers.
Thought the frequency of transportation is low, the carrying capacity is very high.
Moreover, the passenger fare is very low.
와이파이덕에 작은 역의 기차시간도 미리 알 수 있다. 연착도 별로 없다.
By dint of wi-fi, I can check the time schedule of every small stations.
There is no delay in schedule.
하라상의 컨디션 회복이 늦어지고 있다.
혼자서 아침에 다시 그 역으로 와서 출발한다.
Mr. Hara is slow in recovering his condition.
I went to the station and started to walk alone.
기차역앞의 만원버스.
The bus in front of railway station is full of passengers.
이내 마을길로 접어들었다.
원래 계획에는 없었지만, 지금은 이 코스가 최선이다.
Soon I entered into a village. I changed the course which seems to be the best choice.
추수가 끝난 들녁에서 황새들이 먹이를 찾고 있다.
Cranes are searching for food in a field where the harvest is over.
이 지역은 위도가 22도다. 우연의 일치이지만 낮기온도 22도쯤 된다.
우리로 치면 초가을쯤 된다.
The latitude of this region is 22 degrees.
The daytime temperature is 22 degrees, which is a strange coincidence.
It is like early autumn, in Korean weather.

탈곡하는 아낙네들.
Threshing women.
여기는 마을사람 모두가 모여서 탈곡을 하고 있다. 이렇게 대규모의 공동작업을 히는 것은 순례중에 처음 본다.
가까이 가서 사진을 찍어도 좋으냐고 물으니,
Many villagers are threshing all together.
This is the first time that I saw communal work of large scale.
I approached to them and said, "May I take a picture?"
이분에게 물어보라고 한다. 마을의 촌장인듯 하다.
합장으로 인사하고 사우스코리아에서 왔다고 하니 반가워한다. 이 동네는 여권이 높은 듯 그 옆의 부인도 함께 소개받았다.
Somebody said, "Ask that man." He seems to be the chief of the village.
I joined my hands and bowed. I said, "I came from South Korea." He said, "Nice to meet you."
He introduced me his wife who was standing by. I thought the women had power in this village.
마을을 천천히 걸어가는데 오리들이 눈에 띄인다.
I found ducks while I was walking in the village.
이 사진을 찍고 있자니, 뒤따라온 부촌장쯤 되는 분이 이 오리를 대접하고 싶다는 제스처를 한다.
필자는 웃으며 사양했다. 넉넉한 마음이 느껴진다.
While I was taking this picture,
a man who seemed to be vice-chief of the village gestured me that he wanted to treat duck.
I smiled and said, "You are welcome." I felt his kindness.
소똥 말린 것을 이렇게 반죽하여
They dry and mold the dung of cattle.
다시 말리면 취사용 연료가 된다. 냄새도 나지 않는다. 순환적 삶의 모습이다.
They dry dung again and make fuel for cooking. There is no smell at all.
This is the appearance of recycling life.
마을에는 물소도 키우고 있다.
People rear water buffalo in the village.
마을 한가운데에 있는 힌두교 사원.
Hindu temple is in the center of the village.

The children followed me until the large road.

큰길을 걸어다가 만난 정류장과 마을버스 환승지점.
While I was walking along the large road, I reached to a bus station.
People can transfer to village bus.
큰길가의 알곡을 말리는 마당에서 닭들이 마음껏 쪼아먹고 있다.
The fowls are enjoying meal in the yard where people dry grains.
날짜가 들어가는 앱으로 힌두어 지명앞에서 증명사진을 찍어보았다.
In front of Hindu signboard, I took a certificate picture by a new app.
which prints the day and time on the picture.
유채꽃 만발한 큰길가.
The cole was in full bloom at the roadside.
캘커타에서 바라나시로 가는 이 19번 국도는 4차선차도이지만 흙과 자갈로 다져진 보도도 꽤 넓다.
The national road no. 19 goes from Calcutta to Baranasi.
It is wide with four lanes. It was reinforced by soil and pebbles.
호기심을 보인 아이
A boy expressed curiosity.
설명을 듣고 나중에 뒤따라오더니 사과를 내민다. 기특하다.
I explained pilgrimage to him. Later he followed me and gave me an apple.
I was moved by his behavior.
이곳은 추수와 탈곡을 기계로 하고 있다. 마을사람들이 기계와 함께 작업을 즐기고 있다.
In this village, people were using agricultural tractors in harvesting and threshing grains.
People and machine are working together.
필자가 보고 있자니 아이들이 다가와서 손을 흔든다. 순례자로 보였던가 보다.
필자가 리플렛을 꺼내니 울타리를 넘어서까지 왔다. 설명하는 동안에 모두 몰려왔다.
While I was looking at the harvest, children approached to me and waved.
They thought me as a pilgrim.
I pulled out leaflets. They crossed over the fence and came to me.
When I explained about the New Silk Road, more children came to me.

This picture has the largest crowd since I came to India.

Goats are enjoying their meal peacefully.
큰길가 마을입구에서 사람들이 모여 게임을 하고 있다. 필자가 신기해서 가까이 갔다.
당구와 바둑알까기를 통합한듯한 게임이다.
Caram Board 이라고 한단다.
필자는 처음 보았지만 검색하니 많은 이들이 즐기고 있는 중이다.
At the entrance of a village, people are playing a game.
I was curious and went close to them.
It was a game something like mixture of billiards and alkkagi. It is called Caram Board.
I didn't know it before.
I investigated Caran Board by internet and found out that many people enjoy the game.
셀카는 거를 수 없다.
I took a picture of the game by self-camera.
아이들이 따라왔다.
Children were following me.
오늘의 종착지인 Paraj 역에서 마지막에 만난 아이들.
어렸지만 가장 호기심이 왕성했다.
그들은 각자 필자와 기념사진을 찍어갔다.
I met these boys at the Paraj station which was today's destination.
They were young, but they were very curious about my pilgrimage.
I took a picture with them, respectively.
오늘 걸은 거리는 25km.
Today I walked 25km.
