인도남부의 오로빌은 평소부터 관심이 있던 차에 이번에 둘러보기로 생각했다.
1. 생태마을로서의 명성때문에 필자의 전공인 도시계획분야의 관심사
2. '지구착취적' 사회와 대칭되는 대안적 삶의 모델의 하나
3. 평탄지형에서의 마을조성시의 물관리의 기술적 문제
등을 보기 위해 이번 순례 가는 도중에 들러보기로 한 것이다.
Auroville in India is a place which I had waited to visit for a long time.
I thought this pilgrimage is a very good opportunity to visit Auroville.
I had three purposes for the visit.
1. I was interested in the fame of Auroville from the ecological point, because my specialty was city planning.
2. Aurobille was thought to privide an alternative model in the world of Earth-extracting civilization.
3. The technical aspect of water management in the process of building a village at flat land.
필자는 공식경로를 통하지 않고
오로빌 구글지도를 살피다가 한국식당이 보이길래 전화를 걸어 현지사정을 물어보았다.
다시 카톡전화로 여러 이야기를 나누다가 오로빌의 물관리에도 관심이 있다고 하니까,
물관리 전문가인 네덜란드인을 남편으로 둔 한국인 부인이 운영하는
Gaia's Garden Guest House를 소개해주었다.
I did not take an official route. I investigated Google map and found a Korean restaurant.
I dialed the phone number of the restaurant and asked about the local situation.
I talked with the owner of the restaurant via 'kakao talk' and said that I am interested in the water management of Auroville. The owner introduced me Gaia's Garden Guest House which is owned by a Korean woman. She married Netherlander who was a specialist of water management.
여기에서 묵은 것이다.
캘커타 가기 전 닷새동안 지낼 것이다.
I decided to l stay at Gaia's Garden Guest House for five days before I leave for Calcutta.
잠을 깨서 보니 창틀이 인상적이다.
When I woke up in the morning, I found that the widow frame very impressive.
위도가 한참 남쪽인 11도라서 11월말인데도 기온이 25도 안팎으로 덥다.
The latitude was 11 degree which means the place was located farther south of Korea.
It was the end of November, but the temperature was about 24 degrees. It was very hot.
이 힌두교의 신이름이 '쉬바'이던가?
Is the name of this Hindu god 'Shiva'?

이 숙소는 오로빌에서도 명소에 속하는 것 같다.
This shelter seems to be famous among the shelter in Auroville.
물관리가 철저한 가든이다.
The water management of the garden was very thorough.

본부건물 2층과 3층의 회의공간
At main building, the spaces for meeting are located at the 2nd and the 3rd floor.
지붕에는 태양열 설비가 있어서 온수공급을 한다고 한다.
On rooftop, solar facilities are installed and supply warm water.
빗물관리를 염두에 둔 지붕설계.
경사, 처마, 건물가장자리의 수로 등이 연계되어 있다.
The roof was designed to facilitate water management.
The slope, the eaves, and the waterway at the edge of the building were linked together.
고추 말리는 무동력 건조기.
소낙비를 피하면서 일조량 받기와 수분배출을 효과적으로 설계하였다.
The machine to make red peppers dry was operated without electricity.
The drier was designed to protect from shower.
It combined receivging sunlight and draining water effectively.
인도의 모기약

여주인은 필자에게 쌀과 김치를 나누어주었다.
인심 좋은 분이다.
The owner gave me some rice and kimchi. She was very benevelent.
하루를 푹 쉬면서 '부처님의 생애' 책을 새겨보았다.
I took a full rest for one day. For the rest time, I read a book 'The Life of Buddha'.
출가때 하신 말씀의 한구절,
'불이 난 집'에서 뛰쳐나오지 않을 수 없었다는 말씀. 어떤 목적을 추구하려는 '위함'이 아니라, 출가하지 않고는 견딜 수 없었다는 '의함'의 말씀이다.
Entering the priesthood, Buddha said "I could not help coming out of the burning house."
Buddha's saying means his coming our of home did not happen in order to obtain some purpose but he could not help staying at home.
필자도 그렇다.
가만히 있자니 견딜 수 없다는 '분노의 마음', 그것이 순례를 이끌고 있다.
I have a strong sympathy with Buddha.
Because my mind was full of anger, I could not just stay at home.
The energy of anger is leading my pilgrimage.
