Great Rajgir
라즈기르는 당시 부처님을 따랐던 어떤 왕의 희사와 보살핌으로 불법이 크게 전파되었기에,
한자어로는 왕사성(王舍城)이라고도 한다.
Rajgir which was bulit by donation of a King is called 王舍城 in Chinese charater.
At Rajgir, Buddha's teaching was widely accpeted by people.

영산회상의 터에 모셔진 부처님을, 석양의 고운 하늘과 함께 찍었다.
At hillside of Youngchuk mountain in Rajgir, there was a large statue of Buddha.

당시 부처님을 극진히 모신 어느 왕이 희사한 절집 Venu Van 죽림정사 입구.
This is the entrance of Venu Van temple (Juklimjeongsa),
which was donated by a pious King who took good care of Buddha at that time.
과연 대나무 숲이 여기저기 보인다.
There were bamboo groves here and there.
이 불상은 최근에 조상된듯 하다.
This statue seemed to be built recently.
죽림정사 내의 연못
A pond inside Juklimjeongsa.
죽림정사를 나와서 힌두교도들의 많이 방문하는 곳으로 갔다.
I came out of Juklimjeongsa and went to a place where many Hindu people visit.
온천물이 나오는 곳이다.
Hot spring.
힌두교인 이마에는 붉은 점이 있다. 그곳을 찍어주는 이가 있다.
The feature of Hindu people is the red dot on forehead.
This man is a specialist to put red dot.
독수리를 닮았다는 뜻의 원어인
Gridhkut Vulture Peak 가 한자어로 영축산으로 번역되었다.
부처님이 법화경을 설하신 모임인 영산회상이 바로 이 자리에서 열린 것이다.
Gridhkut Vulture Peak means "look like an eagle" which was translated as 영축산(靈鷲山).
Youngsanhoesang where Buddha preached about Lotus Sutra was held at this place.
감개가 무량하다.
I was deeply moved.
주위의 산들과 조화롭게 어울린 자리다.
한국의 자연풍수 기준으로도 큰 명당이다.
This place kept good harmony with surrounding mountains.
By standard of Korean geomantic principles, this place is a superfine spot.
한국에서 온 한 무리의 불자들이 영산회상의 자리에서 불공을 드리고 있다.
A group of Buddhists from Korea are offering Buddhistic mass
at the place of Youngsanhoesang.
석양의 고운 하늘과 함께 부처님 사진을 담있다.
I took a picture of Buddha with beautitul sky at sunset.
부처님이 계셨음직한 토굴. 삼장법사(三藏法師)도 이곳에 머물렀다는 기록이 보인다.
I guess Buddha stayed at this cave.
It was recorded that Samjang monk (三藏法師) stayed at this cave too.
다음날 15km 떨어진 날란다 사원으로 걸어갔다.
Next day, I walked to Nalanda temple which was 15 km apart.
안개길이다. 이 길도 부처님이 걸으셨음이 틀림없다.
The road was foggy. I was sure Buddha walked this road.
날란다 사원에 도착했다.
I arrived at Nalanda temple.
한 때 1만명이 넘는 학자와 스님들이 기거했던 대학 캠퍼스다.
유적이 있는 곳만 수십만평은 족히 되어 보인다.
확인해보니, 당시에는 각변이 5km 11km인 거대한 지역이었다고 한다.
Nalanda was college campus which accomodated more than 10,000 scholars and monks once.
Nalanda was huge area.
I investigated by internet, and found out that Nalanda was 5km x 11km wide.
날란다 경전으로도 잘 알려진 이 대학은 수준이 높기로도 유명했다.
This campus was known as Nalanda sutra, and it was famous for high-quality teaching.

여러 왕조에 걸쳐 지원을 받은 곳이긴 하지만,
당시에 이만한 규모의 조직을 하나의 공간에서 운영하는 것은 여간한 일이 아니었을 터이다.
게다가 질적으로도 불교이치를 성숙시킨 장이었다는 점에서 옷깃이 여며진다.
Though Nalanda campus was supported by many kingdoms,
it must be a huge task to manage such a large organization.
Moreover, Nalanda enriched Buddhistic theory in quality.
I was struck with reverence when I stood at Nalanda.
위대한 라즈기르다.
Rajgir was great.
