                                                             ☆ The Daffodils ☆

                                                                                                   W. Wordsworth.

                                                            I wander'd loney as a cloud

                                                            That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

                                                            When all at once I saw a crowd,

                                                            A host of golden daffodil,

                                                            Beside the lake, beneath the trees

                                                            Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

                                                            Continuous as the stars that shine

                                                            And twinkle on the milky way,

                                                            Thet stretch'd in never - ending line

                                                            Along the margin of a bay :

                                                            Ten thousand saw I at a glance

                                                            Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

                                                            The waves beside them dance, but they

                                                            Out - did the sparkling waves in glee : -

                                                            A poet could not be gay

                                                            In such a jocund company !

                                                            I gazed - and gazed - but little thought

                                                            What wealth the show to me had brought :

                                                            For oft, when on my couch I lie

                                                            In vacant or in pensive mood,

                                                            They flash upon that inward eye

                                                            Which is the bliss of solitude :

                                                            And then my heart with plrasure fills,

                                                            And dances with the daffodils.

 시인은 문득 금 빛 수선화의 무리를 보고 수선화가 춤춘다(dance)라고 표현할 만큼 큰 기쁨을 느끼며 이 시를 쓴다.

3연에서 수선화와 호수와 물과 시인이 한데 어우러져 기쁨을 만끽함을 볼 수 있고,  4 연에서는 이러한 감동이 고요함 속에서 회상되는 과정 - (emotion recollected in tranguility.)을 그리고있다..이 시는 겉으로는 아름다운 수선화의 기억을 생생하게 재생하고 있지만 내적으로는 시작과정의 체험을 이야기하고 있다.

    워즈워드(W. Wordsworth)(1770 - 1850)는 영국의 가장  위대한 낭만파 시인의 한 사람으로서 낭만주의 운동의 중심인물로서 널리 알려져있다..그의 몇 편의 서정시들을 제외하면 일반인들에게 다소 생소하고 철학적인 시의 경향을 띠고있다..

저도용. 예전에 수업시간에 처음 이 시를 읽을 때, 가슴이 꽁당 꽁당 뛰며 행복했어요.^^* 시인처럼...
