Televisions
In "The Matrix," televisions were used as a symbolic forshadowing of shocking news and revelations.
After Neo is taken by the agents, we observe Neo through a grid of small television screens. Slowly, we are pulled through one until we are in the room with him. It is here that we learn who Morpheus is and what the agents want with Neo. It is also during this scene that Neo is shocked to learn that life is not what it seems as his mouth is molded shut and a bug is inserted into his belly button.
We see a television in the Oracle's living room. The set is on and it appears the children are watching a movie that involves huge rabbits. Several of the children are also performing some amazing feats which intrigue Neo. It is at this point that Neo learns a quick lesson in boundaries of reality.
But most importantly, it is at the Oracle's that Neo is also presented with some very discouraging news concerning the future (that either Morpheus or him is going to die). it is also here that Neo is lead to belive that he isn't the one.
While Neo is trying to outrun the agents and make it to room 303, he runs through an apartment of two elderly woman. In the living room, there is a tv on and the one woman appears to be watching it while knitting. (The screen is shown only briefly but it looks like a man dressed like an agent is on the screen.) In the kitchen of that same apartment, an elderly woman turns into an agent and nearly misses hiting Neo with a kitchen knife.
It is in an old tv repair shop that Trinity, Apoc, Switch and Neo realize that awful truth that Cypher has betrayed them and that they are going to die (or so they think.)
In the contruct, Neo is showed via a television what the matrix is and what has happened to the earth.
